Specifying the Right Grade

Match SS304 to typical industrial installations where cost and performance must balance. Specify SS316 for harsh chloride and chemical environments where replacements are difficult and downtime is expensive. Choose aluminum for weight-sensitive, low-voltage or data-heavy projects. Also consider the surrounding materials, because contact between dissimilar metals can accelerate galvanic corrosion.

Galvanic Corrosion and Fasteners

When two different metals meet in the presence of moisture, galvanic corrosion can accelerate the decay of the less noble material. This matters when aluminum trays are fixed with steel brackets, or stainless trays meet galvanized supports. Specify isolating washers, compatible fasteners and, where possible, maintain a single dominant material throughout the run. For coastal or chemical projects, stainless fasteners paired with stainless trays eliminate the risk entirely and simplify long-term maintenance.
